Take care of yourself!- it’s not selfish


– Hi there, it’s Sophie Watson here, helping corporate and
entrepreneurial women to get back in control
of stress and anxiety. Today I wanted to talk to you a bit about why it’s not selfish
to take care of yourself. What I find with a lot of clients is that they are constantly
doing stuff for other people. It may be that you are
constantly running around, if you’ve got kids, you might be taking
them on the school run, then you go to work, you’re then working on your business. You’re then doing this,
you’re then doing that. It becomes overwhelming. It feels like you never have time for you, and also, you are then
losing your own identity. You no longer know who you are. It may be that when somebody
asks you who you really are, and asks who you are, you actually refer to
yourself as your job. It may be that you’re
referring to yourself as like a business woman, or you’re referring
yourself as just a mom, or again, just a dad, whatever it is. Whatever you are referring yourself to, that isn’t actually you. You need to find out exactly
who you are within yourself. For me, yes I’m a
therapist, that is my job. That is my role, but that isn’t who I am. Who I am is somebody that loves going, and I’m a adrenaline junkie. I love going out to concerts. My job isn’t me, it’s not just me. Hi Remi, nice to see you in here. So yeah, it’s you thinking about all those other things that make up you. You aren’t just your job. You aren’t just that role that
you play within your family. You are so much more than that. Now, because we are constantly just focusing on getting things done, doing things for other people, we lose sight of that. It’s really important that we actually take time just for us, and do things just for us, even if it’s 10 minutes
a day, every single day. If you imagine, for example, if you have a bowl and
it’s full of gold coins, and you’re constantly
giving out those gold coins. When are you actually stopping to refill those gold coins? It’s like your energy. You’re giving away all that
energy to other people, but you’re never refilling and restocking on that energy. This is really, really important. When you look after
yourself first and foremost, you then have so much more energy in order to help everybody else out. You’ll find that you’ve got more energy to do all those little things that normally really drain you. For example, what I do
every single morning is I take time for me, and I do the things that I love doing before I start working
with any of my clients, because my energy needs to be really high in order to help my clients out. It’s the same for you. Whatever you are doing in life, you need to have the
energy in order to do that, but you have to look after yourself first to get that energy, and then you can start
looking after other people. This is a no excuses video, okay? I want you guys to stop making excuses. Stop saying that you haven’t got time to do these things to
take care of yourself, because if you think about it, if you work yourself to the ground, if you no longer have any
energy to help anybody else, not only are you, your immune
system going right down, so you’re more likely to get illnesses, but also, if you can’t help those people, then who’s going to? You need to look after yourself. You need to have the
energy in order to do that. Somebody, if you need
to say no to somebody because you haven’t got
the energy to do something, then that’s fine. That is taking care of yourself. That is you building up your energy, so that you can deliver in a much bigger and better way the next time. If you don’t feel that you’ve got the energy to do something, then just have the
courage to say no to it, and look after yourself, pamper yourself, build your energy back up again, so that then you can then start helping people in a much, much bigger way. I’m gonna share something with you. This is something that I
share with a lot of my clients because they tend to lose their way a bit, and I have this pinned up
on my wall every single day so that I can remind myself
of what I need to be doing in order to be able to help my clients. This is basically my mission in life. My mission is to become
the best version of myself by working on myself every day. This will enable me to help others to become the best version of themselves. Exactly, this all that I’m saying to you. When you work on yourself
every single day, when you do something for you, you are gonna become a
better version of you. You’re gonna have more energy, and you’re gonna be able to help people in a much bigger, bigger way. Okay guys, so that’s my tip for today. If this has helped you,
