Self Care: The Importance of MASSAGE THERAPY

Self Care: The Importance of MASSAGE THERAPY

hey guys welcome back to my channel it’s
September which means it’s still self-care Awareness Month and this week
we are focusing on massage and the benefits of it who it is for who would
maybe not for and all that good stuff I talked to my massage in chief Kimberly
and she shared some really good information with me I have little
cheat sheets here um but I’m in a different location today if you noticed
I got the doggies with me because my neighbor is doing some construction and
the drilling is really messing with my videos so let’s get into it so you know
we talked about self-care and why it’s so important and this week massage which
is near and dear to my heart I love a good massage but it has helped me
immensely in healing and loosening my muscles you know I don’t always stretch
as much as I should so massage really helps to get into
those muscle fibers and really loosen me up so I asked Kimberly who has been a
ballerina since she was 17 years old and when she was 19 she had you know
multiple issues in her foot and as a ballerina that is you know detrimental
to your career so you know she did all this stuff with Western medicine you
know went to the doctor did physical therapy did all this stuff and nothing
was working her friend referred her to his mother who was you know more on the
eastern side of medicine she was a massage therapist and did cranial sacral
something and just one session with her did more than a year of being you know
with all the Western medicine practitioners so you know this really
sparked something inside of her you know as a dancer you’re also you know
creative you are a healer you are in that that other realm and you know this
prompted her to go to massage school so flash forward she’s been a massage
therapist for 10 years she’s you know full fledged into ballet
she lives in San Diego now is part of the City Ballet she’s going on her
seventh season and she is just fantastic with her fingers she is amazing
so I asked her you know one is massage therapy to the layman and it is
basically manual manipulation of the soft body tissues to enhance a person’s
health and well-being and I can attest to that for sure the benefits I mean the
benefits go on and head to BrieOCD.com to get the entire list of all the
things that it helps but pain management you know that’s where most people go to
the massage masseuse first and foremost just like her with her foot pain
management stress relief I mean it helps so many things in conjunction with
stress relief it brings your nervous system out of the
sympathetic into the parasympathetic decreasing your cortisol levels it
decreases the anxiety and depression by releasing endorphins and happy
transmitters similar to like when you get a hug it helps with the circulatory
function it helps with detoxification it releases toxins and you make sure you
flush those out with a lot of water post massage but it does all these things to
help your body and it feels damn good so on at the time so deep tissue massage
that’s one of her points that it shouldn’t be painful yes deep tissue
goes deeper than a Swedish massage but it should not be painful and if you are
in a massage and you are experiencing pain you need to tell your therapist
because if you get too over an eight out of ten anywhere within the eight range
you’re doing more harm than good your muscles are now in that flight or fight
and they think something bad is happening to them when you’re
experiencing that pain and they’re totally shutting down they are not doing
what you want them to do which is relax let the masseuse massage
therapist in and really release those toxins and get those muscles loosened up
so if you are in pain don’t lie there and take it talk to your therapist and
just say hey can you loosen up a bit and you
don’t have to take it so that is one of her first and you know biggest things
also is to find the right massage therapist so if you have a specific need
if you are pregnant go to a person therapist that specializes in pregnant
people and maternity massages you know just like if you needed hand surgery
would you go to a foot surgeon no you’d find the best person in that field so
find the right therapist ask them questions and again head to BrieOCD.com
for more information more on all of this and you should also be proactive not
reactive so I used to be reactive I had a pain I
go to get a massage now I’m more proactive and I get them regularly you
know I do shorten ones you know to be affordable but I am proactive and
getting these muscles to constantly lengthen and release instead of going
after the fact when it’s basically a little too late not too late because you
can fix yourself but you’re in a heightened state of pain and awareness
so be proactive instead of reactive you know self-care is not um selfish it
is not being you know luxurious it is a necessity to take care of your health so
you could take care of other people just like I mentioned in the acupuncture
self-care from last week so you know who should avoid a massage you know people
with deep vein thrombosis that’s a tough one I severe
osteoporosis people who are on blood thinners so head to BrieOCD.com to get
the full list of who should avoid massage but for the most part there is a
modality and a way to work around all kind of ailments that you might have so
massage again it’s not a luxury make sure you find the right massage
therapist ask questions don’t take painful massages because you
think you need to and head to BrieOCD.com to get more information on the
subject health is wealth people you only get one body so take care of it because
you will be sorry when you’re old up so if you like my videos give me a thumbs
up and subscribe please tell your friends lets go, health is wealth, self care awareness, month september baby!
