Penn State Health and Andrews Patel Hematology/Oncology – 9/4/2018

Good morning from Trindle Road in Camp Hill and Andrews Patel hematology/oncology. Events both here on Trindle Road and at the Andrews Patel location on Union Deposit Road, just outside Harrisburg, are celebrating the fact that today is when Andrews Patel joins Penn State Health Medical Group. And right now, we’re preparing to unveil the sign here at Andrews Patel hematology/oncology on Trindle Road as it becomes part of Penn State Health. And they’re gonna pose for a few photos here briefly and then we’re going to be speaking with Dr. Bird and Dr. Peroutka at two of the people who you see over here posing for photos. This is a big day because for Andrews Patel, This marks the day when it’s nearly 90 employees including ten employed physicians become part of Penn State health. Right now I’m gonna welcome Dr. Peroutka and Dr. Bird over to the camera here and yeah, big day here at Andrews Patel. Dr. Peroutka nearly 30 years this practice has been part of Central Pennsylvania, tell us a bit about why today is they got such a landmark in its existence.>>[Dr. Peroutka] So it is a big day for us actually, it’s walking into a whole new era. This has been a great practice, we focus on patients, we love what we do and it’s a little scary to go into a new group but we’re feeling really good about it because we feel like our values with Penn State are the same. We care about patients, we care about good patient care and so we think this is a great opportunity for our patients and for us.>> Dr. Bill Bird, senior vice president with Penn State Health Medical Group,. There’s talk of new clinical care cancer models here as a result of this partnership. Can you tell us what that’s all about?>>[Dr. Bill Bird] Our goal is to deliver Cancer Care close to home for patients and by adding this group which is very prestigious in the quality of care they do and how they treat patients, it adds both another site in Dauphin County and a site in Cumberland County as we expand cancer care across the five to six County area network.>>I think Dr. Bird said three words that are; close to home. That’s where people want to receive their cancer care right?>> I think that’s right. We have been in the community for a long time. We have a practice here in Camp Hill and then another office over on Union Deposit Road. We’re close to patients, were convenient for patients and we feel like getting the expertise from Hershey Medical Center and joining together with that, will give our patients better care, better opportunities but they’ll be able to be treated right here where we’ve always been.>>Fantastic! And the Penn State Health Cancer Network Dr. Bird now spans six counties if you include Penn State Health St. Joseph Cancer Center also, Penn State Health Medical Group Lancaster, hematology oncology. So six different counties. That growth is important for this region. It is and it’s also to deliver a standard of care that’s consistent across the region and when you add the most prestigious group that’s been in the community for years, it’s just an amazing benefit for us and for all of our patients. Thanks to both of you.>>Can I say something else?>>Oh, absolutely!>>Again, so it is a little bit scary for us to move into this new relationship because we feel like we’re really good at taking care of patients, That’s what we really have always wanted to do and that’s what we feel that we do do. But when we go to Penn State, there is something else that they kind of preach and I’m gonna just say it, they talk about respect and integrity, They talk about teamwork and they talk about excellence and it sounds a little corny but actually, those are our values too. So knowing that we meet up with those values, if we put the patient first in line, everything else, all this other coming together, should just fall right in place.>>Thank you so much for your time. Dr. Katherine Peroutka, she’s a physician here at Andrews Patel Hematology Oncology Associates and Dr. Bill Bird, he’s a senior vice president and Penn State Health Medical Group. Again, we’re on Trindle Road but the Andrews Patel location in Union Deposit Road just outside Harrisburg also becoming part of Penn State Health today on this Tuesday. Thanks a lot for watching this video from Penn State Health.
