Well, most of I think what you think
talking about is really normal aging and there were memory changes and cognitive
changes in normal aging but when you’re having repeated problems, problems that
come up every day and an impact on your life. Problems like finding words, finding
your way around familiar places, getting lost, losing things,
losing names, those are the things that should prompt a visit to the doctor. At
Penn State, we’re building a brand new Alzheimer’s Disease care and Research
Center and our goal is to serve the largest rural older adult population in
the United States. The Central Pennsylvania rural older adult population.>>That many? Really? We’re getting that big?>>That’s right.>>Then you could be talking about
Alzheimer’s and that’s a scary diagnosis.>>Yes it is.>>But you guys ways of kind of dealing with it. Right?>>Well you know we do have ways of dealing with it. we have ways, first of all, telling
you if that’s what you’ve got or do you have something else? One of the treatable
causes of cognitive decline, where we can really reverse it. In Alzheimer’s Disease,
if we were to get to that diagnosis there are medicines that can have an
impact on quality of life and that’s the quality of life of the whole family.>>It
affects everybody around you.>>It’s right. It’s not just the patient, it’s the
patient and the spouse and the kids and the whole family who are impacted by
this disease. And what are the important things we do is give us advice about how
to deal with a family member who’s afflicted with Alzheimer’s.
