DOHC Diabetes Genesis’s Story

DOHC Diabetes Genesis’s Story

My name is Genesis, I am 13 years old and
I have Type 1 diabetes. Before she was diagnosed, we thought Genesis
might have the Flu. But something as simple as a finger prick
test told us it was a much more serious condition. Even though everyone was really nice, being
sick in the hospital for a week isn’t exactly a vacation. That’s when her mother and I began to care
for our daughter in a brand new way. The ADA, The American Diabetes Association,
has been amazing for teaching all of us how to deal with my condition. They taught my wife and me how to create a
section 504 plan at school, So Genesis could be cared for during the day without discrimination. Thanks to the ADA I went to summer camp with
other kids living with Diabetes. That’s where I learned to give myself that
very first insulin shot. The ADA has been there for all of us every
step of the way. And so has Desert Oasis Healthcare. Who I am proud to call my employer. They are both important parts of my daughter’s
Diabetes healthcare. For the 2nd year, Desert Oasis is the presenting
sponsor for Step Out for Diabetes Coachella Valley. Our family will be helping to raise awareness
and money for the ADA and their important work. Why not help Team DOHC fund raise for the
cure. We’ll provide the care. Right here in our community. For Genesis and so many others living with
Diabetes. Won’t you please help the ADA as they continue
to search for the cure. Because someday I want to say “I USED TO HAVE
DIABETES”
